Care of Hérida pieces
All Hérida jewellery is made from 925 sterling silver, gold-plated silver and silver 925 with gold. Each material has its own characteristics and requires some care to keep it beautiful and long-lasting.
925 sterling silver is a noble, resistant and hypoallergenic metal. However, it can darken/oxidise over time, which is a natural process and not a defect. Darkening occurs due to factors such as the pH of the skin (more acidic in some people), perspiration, contact with perfumes, cosmetics, sea or pool water and even exposure to air (sulphur). Fortunately, silver can be easily cleaned and regains its original shine with a cloth suitable for jewellery.
Silver pieces with gold plating require even more attention, as gold plating doesn't last forever. How quickly it wears off depends on contact with cosmetics (especially those containing alcohol), the level of perspiration or even the pH of the skin. To better preserve the original colour, we recommend following the care instructions below or opting for silver pieces without gold plating.
Cleaning
To clean 925 sterling silver, use only the soft cloth that comes with the piece. Avoid aggressive cleaning products, bleach, strong detergents or chlorinated water, as they can darken the silver.
To clean gold-plated silver, use the soft cloth that comes with the piece. Frequent contact with soap and water can accelerate the wear of the gold plating and alter the tone of the piece.
Never scrub hard or use abrasive brushes, as this can scratch or damage the surface.
General recommendations
Always handle gently. Avoid contact with personal care products, perfumes, creams or chemical substances. Wait a few minutes after applying cosmetics before putting on the jewellery. Store jewellery separately (preferably in its original packaging) to avoid scratches or oxidation. Remove jewellery before exercising, bathing or sleeping. Remove rings before applying alcohol disinfectant or wearing rubber/latex gloves, which can damage the gold plating.
By following these recommendations, Hérida jewellery will retain its shine and beauty for much longer.
